Fix: Patcher Kernel Has Stopped Working (League of Legends)

If you are a loyal user of League of Legends, the Patcher Kernel has stopped working issue may be familiar to you. It is a common error you may encounter when you try to launch the League of Legends. When the issue occurs, the error message “ Patcher Kernel has stopped working” will pop up on your screen, which says “A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.”


If you are stuck in this error and cannot start the game, don’t worry. Here are some tricks to help you get rid of it. Read on and try them one by one.

Fix 1. Run the League of Legends as Administrator

Sometimes the lack of administrator’s permission may result in the Patcher Kernel has stopped working issue. In this case, you can easily resolve the issue by running the League of Legends as administrator. Just right click the program and select “Run as administrator” from the pop-up menu.


Fix 2. End the League of Legends in Task Manager

If the Patcher Kernel has stopped working issue cannot be troubleshot by running the program as administrator, the next method you can try is to end the League of Legends in Task Manager. Do as follows.

Step 1. Right click the Start button and select Task Manager to run it.


Step 2. Get to the Processes tab and find all the processes linked to League of Legends such as LoLLauncher.exe, LoLPatcher.exe and LoLClient.exe.

Step 3. Right click these processes and select “End task” to end them.


Now you can restart the program as administrator to see whether the error is gone.

Fix 3. Delete Some Files to Fix Patcher Kernel Has Stopped Working

If it is unfortunate that the two methods above cannot help you get rid of the Patcher Kernel not working issue, don’t panic. Here is still a workable solution for you. Try to resolve the issue by deleting some files in the patch folder of the program. Take these steps:

Step 1. Locate the directory of League of Legends in your computer.

Step 2. Find a folder named RADS in the directory. And then navigate to projects > lol_air_client > releases.

Step 3. Open the latest folder in releases and delete the files named releasemanifest and S_OK.


Step 4. Open the deploy folder and delete the files named logs, META-INF,, and LoLClient.exe.


Now restart the game and the “ Patcher Kernel has stopped working” error message should have disappeared.
