Recently, a lot of users report the Windows 10 taskbar not hiding in full screen issue. If your taskbar also won’t auto-hide on your PC, no worries, here are two fixes for the taskbar not hiding in full screen mode in Windows 10.
1. Check the Taskbar Settings
Step 1. Press Windows key + I altogether to open Settings
Step 2. Click Personalization, and then Taskbar
Step 3. There are two options that manage the auto-hiding functionality of the Windows 10 taskbar: “Automatically hide the taskbar in desktop mode” and “Automatically hide the taskbar in tablet mode”
Step 4. Enable “Automatically hide the taskbar in desktop mode”, and the Windows 10 taskbar will be hidden automatically.
2. Restart Windows Explorer to Fix Windows 10 Taskbar Not Hiding in Full Screen Issue
Step 1. Use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl-Shift-Esc to open the Windows Task Manager.
Step 2. If you see only the basic interface, click on more details.
Step 3. Locate the Windows Explorer process under processes, and click on it with the left mouse button.
Step 4. Click on the restart button to restart the process.

The solution about restarting Windows Explorer worked great.
Thank you so much.
2nd solution worked … yes
Glad to hear that. Wish you all the best.
the 2nd solution’s amazing! thank you… it worked!
Glad to hear that. Have a nice day!
Autohide just means that it goes away until i mouse over where the taskbar would be and then it pops up. It completely ruins gaming. It was fine until 30 mins ago with an update. Please knock it off. Have a gaming setting that doesn’t make fullscreen small and hides the taskbar permanently until looking at desktop.
Thanks for your sharing, Ken.
both options kinda work…
but its not fixing the problem itself and it will occur frequently ive noticed.
2nd option is the best, i dont wanna be switching the autohide option multiple times a day, and the restart of explorer is otherwise good but it looses track of some programs ur running in system bar. like nvidia, few monitoring tools etc.
the fix is kinda like my car only runs full speed and wont slow down even when breaking, shot down your car using keys ingnition and restart, do this allways when this happens
its not a fix, its not solved, temporary “workaround” at best… though its generally been accepted option for over 2 years it seems, even by microsoft… great work MS, lazy as allways
There was no like button below the article. So posting a comment to express my gratitude. Thank you, the second option really worked.
Thanks for your feedback.
Great! Worked thanks!
This is not a fix by any definition, it is a band-aid that lasts till it happens again which is frequent with users like who have their pc on all day working – this happens every facking day sometimes several times a day! It is a registry flaw since Win 7 that has gotten worse with every update starting with 7 through OS 8 and 10; MS has consciously decided probably for cost-cutting reasons and head-count, not to fix this flaw/error in their OS. Win XP never once did this!
the restart explorer worked pretty fine thank you
none of these things fixed the problem for me… temporarily or otherwise. my autohide settings are already in place. i don’t use exporer, so it isn’t open…
anything else?
He said WINDOWS explorer not INTERNET explorer… youre using it right now.. and yeh, it works… its right down the bottom in the list to save you some time….
This has been an issue with Windows for as long as I can remember – not just Windows 10. Nothing I do ever fixes it. Maybe it’ll hide for a day or two but it ALWAYS pops back up again. I can’t see what I need to see when I’m working, and when I’m gaming, I simply can’t deal with a gigantic taskbar covering up my screen!
works
I’d already chosen “auto hide taskbar” but the taskbar was there all the time. It was preventing me from seeing what I was typing in a msg box at the bottom of the screen, and I had no option to move the msg box. Once I did the restart recommended here, it finally went away. thank you
I’ve been browsing online more than 4 hours today, yet I never found any interesting article like yours. It’s pretty worth enough for me. In my opinion, if all site owners and bloggers made good content as you did, the internet will be a lot more useful than ever before.|
I think you mean ctrl-alt-del to get to the task manager…not contrl-shift-esc.
It’s Ctrl-Shift-Esc.
thanks, the 2nd worked
Glad to hear that. Have a nice day!
nice pice of work
Just to let you know I tried like 10 things before seeing this and the taskbar was still locked. Now hiding like it is supposed to after restarting Windows Explorer. Thank you!!!
Glad to hear that. Wish you all the best.
Thanks a lot, it works,
Glad to hear that. Have a nice day!
2nd option is really great… it solved my problem. before I had found a crude answer to it… I used to click on windows icon on bottom left, when ever, it was not hiding automatically… color of windows icon if white it will not hide. clicking it to show windows option and then moving cursor away, worked….
You saved my many clicks
Glad to hear that. Wish you a nice day! Stay safe and healthy.
Thank you, the 2nd option work great.
